The Cockatoo.
When the house first opened its ledger in 1856, a cockatoo presided over the counting-room — a loud, long-lived bird said to greet every merchant who walked the Vesey Street floor. The engraving you see was cut for our earliest packaging and watched over every crate bought and sold.
We keep him at the masthead now as we keep the rest of the archive: faithfully restored, plainly catalogued, and never replaced.
